Task: CP015-005
Conceptual
Knowledge Category: III.B. Design Inputs and Review
Functional Discipline: Quality
ADLI Scale: III.B.
Process: Determine Design Capability
Process Purpose:
To understand the present and potential state of engineering capability and to ensure engineering capability can meet the stated and unstated requirements of the customer/program. To ensure mechanisms exist for design consideration of production capabilities and mitigation of predicted nonconformance activity. (Assessment of risk associated with variation to Standard-work.) Also, ensure supplier/partner has sufficient resources to accomplish design requirements.
Supplier Emphasis:
To understand the present and potential state of engineering capability within the supply and/or partner base. To ensure supplier/partner design systems are compatible with your own (e.g., collaborative product designs, and computer designed product).
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
Knowledge of value stream capabilities and systems related to engineering/design. Familiarity with interface specifications of design and development tools. Knowledge of value stream scheduling and resource limitations. Ability to elicit similar information from suppliers.
