    Process: Plan for configuration management process

    Process Purpose: 

    Review the Configuration Management Processes to be used on the program to ensure compliance with established Systems Engineering (SE) and Configuration Management (CM) practices. Ensure the establishment of a change process for program and design changes is being planned for, and coordination and communication are integral parts of the process's design. (Awareness of common CM tools)

    Supplier Emphasis:

    To the extent that a supplier has design authority, review the Configuration Management Processes to be used on the program to ensure compliance with established SE and CM practices. Ensure the establishment of a change process for program and design changes is being planned for, and coordination and communication are integral parts of the process's design. Ensure that configuration management plans are required by contractual means to suppliers/partners. For suppliers without design authority, ensure the establishment of a process to track and implement changes throughout the part life cycle.

    Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

    Ability to review the Configuration Management Processes to be used on the program and ensure compliance with established Systems Engineering (SE) and Configuration Management (CM) practices. Ability to assess the establishment and adequacy of a change process for program. Ability to evaluate the organization's and value-stream's capability and capacity to manage design changes, and ensure the coordination, communication, and appropriate approval processes are integral parts of the design CM processes. (Awareness of common CM tools) Ability to access contractual documents to ensure configuration management control requirements are adequately noted.
