    Process: Ensure Supplier Packaging Controls are in Place

    Process Purpose: 

    Ensure the supplier has processes to protect products and services in packaging to prevent damage during transport. May require familiarity with various packaging standards. Ability to understand packaging specifications and drawing requirements. Ensure shipping documents, to include labeling are legible, applied appropriately, and contain all applicable data required.

    Supplier Emphasis: 

    To the extent suppliers source work to sub-tier suppliers, ensure the requirements for packaging are appropriately flown down to sub-tier suppliers. This includes the flow down of standards and the assurance of access and understanding. If direct-ship authority is provided, ensure packaging and identification comply with PO, design, and regulatory requirements.

    Knowledge and Skills Requirements: 

    Ability to verify that supplier/partner processes protect products and services in packaging to prevent damage during transport. Understanding of various packaging standards, including international and government standards, as applicable. Ability to verify that shipping documents meet applicable requirements and that labeling is legible, applied appropriately, and contain all applicable data required. Ability to ensure supplier/partner has adequate processes in place to ensure sub-tier suppliers apply packaging requirements. Understanding of direct-ship processes and related regulatory requirements, as applicable.
